Poetry

Words escape me
at this moment
that seems like the end
yet it is only the beginning
when friendships are close
and dreams are far
you were there for me.
Tears fill me
with memories of both good and bad
some nearly forgotten
yet all dear to the heart
you were there for me.
In times of trouble
and in times of thanks
you stood by my side
and held me up.
Through your ever-patient ears
to your comforting hugs
you were there for me.
From that first day
when I saw you and knew
that you would love me for who I was
you were there for me.
And until the day
when we are old and gray
I will always know that
you are there for me.

In this poem, the poet is tackling a very important subject which is friendship. Friendship is a very important issue in human life. Nobody on this earth can live without a good friend. Good friends are like precious stones. If one has a good friend, than he has a valuable precious stone. The poet here in this poem has been blessed by having a sincere faithful friend. His friend has been very faithful to him all his life. He proved to be a loyal friend. He has been there for him in good times and bad ones. He stood by his side when he needed him," you were there for me. In times of trouble and in times of thanks, you stood by my side
and held me up
." The poet's friend has always been a good listener too which is a very important quality in a good friend. He has always listened to his problems trying to understand his problems and helping him in finding a solution," Through your ever-patient ears to your comforting hugs you were there for me." His good friend proved to be not just a good listener to helping him with his own problems but he also proved to be very kind and loving as well. His arms are always wide open to his friend, they are always ready to give him warm hugs," to your comforting hugs," to relieve his struggling soul.
The poet's friend shared with him happy times and sad moments as well. He took part with him in all his ups and downs," with memories of both good and bad some nearly forgotten yet all dear to the heart you were there for me". One of the major points in regarding a friend to be a special one is that he or she has shared with you, your good and bad memories. Sharing a memory with someone leaves a mark on the heart whether this memory is a happy or a sorrowful one. We don't always like to share our memories with just any person but there are certain people in our life that we allow to share with us our happiness and our sorrow.
A good friend stays with you forever, from the first day you met him or her till you both grow very old and you lean on each other arms. A sincere friend is not just for the time being but he is the one who is there for you all your life time remaining the same good, patient, kind-hearted, and sincere friend forever," From that first day when I saw you and knew that you would love me for who I was you were there for me. And until the day when we are old and gray I will always know that you are there for me."
As for the form of the poem, the poet here has used many antonyms:" end, beginning, close, far, good, bad, trouble, thanks." And he also used many paradoxical sentences:" that seems like the end yet it is only the beginning, when friendships are close and dreams are far, with memories of both good and bad some nearly forgotten yet all dear to the heart, in times of trouble and in times of thanks, from that first day And until the day, when we are old and gray."
Moreover, there are few rhymed lines in this poem, for example," with memories of both good and bad some nearly forgotten yet all dear to the heart, And until the day when we are old and gray." There is also a repetition of some lines like the repetition of "you were there for me." The poet went on repeating this line over and over again throughout the whole poem to emphasize the fact that his friend is a true and faithful one.

Life by Maya Angelo
This poem is written by a famous modern poet who is Maya Angelou. In this peom Angelou is asking the reader to have peace with his past life for the fact that nobody can change his or her past life. It is better to live in peace with our past life and to try hard to view it differently.
The poet is saying that forgiveness is very important in leading a good life and so she is advising the reader to get rid of guilt and to start taking the hard road by trying to forgive others, meaning those who have hurt us.
The poet is emphasizing the importance of being modest and humble. She is urging the reader to forget everything that has to do with arrogance and to stick to humility as it is the key of succes and richeness. She is also advising the reader to "exchange love for hate." To Maya Angelou  love is very important, it is the key to happiness and joy which would lead to a comfortable present and promising future.
This poem is unrhymed, there is neither aliteration no repeated words. The poem is quiet obvious and it gives a direct message to the reader.

HOPE
In this poem, the poet is discussing an important theme which is the theme of the life struggle of man on earth. From the day he is born, man fights to grow up, develop and change. He fights to win his bread and to work hard to succeed. He always has HOPE in life. He always believes that tomorrow is better day.
He faces many difficulties and struggles. Everything around him is a sort of challenge to him. There are many challenges that he has to face and triumph over. There are wars and fights around him all over the world. People are fighting each other. Everybody is not satisfied with what he or she has. Crimes are committed as well as wrong actions are taking place all over the world for the purpose of gaining money or increasing one's income or even for the purpose of winning a match or a game.
Those who commit crimes or make wrong actions disregard the fact that they are causing evil to spread in the world not caring at all that by doing so they are hurting other people who are living in the same universe.
At the end of the poem, the poet is not losing hope that through love, miracles could be achieved and many good things could be done to the whole world which the poet compared to a big tree that has many branches and you can smell the fragrance of each branch through "the colors of love."
This poem is unrhymed and there is not alteration in this poem and there is no repetition of words but we do have some words and their antonyms and there are other words that give the meaning of hope. For instance, the poet's use of the words:" innocence, rainbow, love, harvest, wisdom, warmth, trust, dreams, fragrant and cradles." All such words although used to show the meaning that the world has become a battlefield, they inspire in the reader a feeling of hope and good desires for a better future.
family

In this poem, the poet is showing his love and gratitude to his father whom he loves very much. His father has taught him many values and morals. The poet feels indebted to his father. His father taught him good qualities like honesty, trust and caring about people. They are good qualities that the poet would cherish all his life.

His father has been a great example for him. He was the best personification for such good qualities. The poet was greatly influenced by his father and he is keen to follow his father's teachings.
The poem is a clear example for the gratitude of a son toward his father. It is also a good example for a family poem.
Love

In this poem the poet is discussing a very important theme which is the theme of love. Love is a major theme in this poem. The poet is deeply in love with his beloved. His beloved is the best thing that has ever happened to him.

At the end of this poem, the poet clearly declared his love to her by saying:" I love you!"
